FGM is sick and should not be tolerated by any person, country, village, etc. But unfortunately, that's how old world thinking is; women are unclean and bad.

These people are sick fucks and it makes me mad as hell that this practice is still going on.

Utter disturbance.

"But unfortunately, that's how old world thinking is; women are unclean and bad."

Interesting that you mention this, because I've heard many American women saying how they have circumised their infant sons because "uncircumcised men are unclean and dirty".

Even if many people refuse to admit it we can draw many paralels betwean male and female circumcision.

As far as the article posted in this thread it's clearly very biased.

In first paragraph they state:

"Despite the similarity in name, it has little in common with what westerners identify as “circumcision” (as practiced upon males)."

Later they admit that one of the type of female circumcision is "cutting away the clitoral hood -- with or without removal of part or all of the clitoris."

Removal of the hood from the clitoris while leaving the clitoris intact is actually less invasive than male circumcision. Clitoral hood, analougous to foreskin in males, is several times smaller than genital tissue removed during male circumcision.

Removal of the clitoral hood is felony under U.S. law. FGM bill specifically prohibits this (and other procedures) being performed for religious and cultural reasons.

This law is obviously discriminating against boys.

Male circumcision is just not thought of as being cruel, and it's unfortunate because it too is a religious practise. There is no reason to circumsize baby boys. There has been reasearch done that states that there are no health hazzards for leaving boys uncut. I think I read a statistic once saying that only 15% of males in North America are circumcized (mind you that statistic could be wrond), but most people think it's the norm and popular thing to do.

"Although most gender discrimination is against women, men are also victims of abuse. Male activists have been involved in botched divorces and abuse. The Men’s Rights Association’s (MRA) goal “is to marshal manpower in defense of men, masculinity and the family. Our definition of men’s liberation is freedom to be (not from being) men.” One wing of these movements is to eliminate stereotypes associated with men and women. “It’s time to stop the
‘sexual inquisition’. These groups receive many criticisms: “White men don’t
need a support group because they already have one, it’s called the United States of America”, and “Ain’t they still running the world?” "

(This paraghraph was taken from my Political Science essay on "Should Gender Discrimination be considered part of International Relations". There are multiple footnotes for the quotes...blah blah....if you want to know where I got them just ask and I'll post them.)
